What is happening today in the digital age is quite alarming. The sophistication of information-technology is often a factor of internal divisions among Muslims, even the nation. Differences in understanding furu'iyah (ijtihad), groups and even political direction, can also aggravate this condition.
With capital pieces of video framing according to personal will, for example, people who don't have the same understanding easily make them available on social media, which can cause public uproar.
What is being viral now is related: the weight of a pious woman who is no more than 55 kg; is concrete evidence when the sophistication of information technology is not accompanied by the spirit of tabayyun (clarification), it will lead to slander and fighting sheep.
In fact, it is very clear the tabayyun's command in surah Al-Hujurat verse 6. The Prophet also reminded in the Baihaqi history that, "Caution is from Allah and haste is from Satan."
When Ma'iz bin Malik came to the Prophet to be purified for adultery, the Prophet did not accept him outright. He told him to return and take refuge, at the same time repent to Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala.
Apparently, Ma'iz was not calm and returned many times. The Prophet's answer was the same. For the fourth time he asked, "What do you want me to purify?" Maiz wanted to be purified of adultery. Very carefully the Prophet clarified whether he was crazy or was drinking khamr (Miras). Only after the case was clear was the sentence determined.
Interestingly, the Prophet Muhammad when he got word directly from Maiz was not in a hurry in making a decision. Tabayyun's spirit and clarification take precedence over him.
Even the spirit of tabayyun can also be learned from the story of the Prophet Solomon and the hud-hud birds. When this bird brought news from Saba`, the son of the Prophet David did not immediately accept it outright but said, "We will see, are you right, or are you among those who lie." (Surah An-Naml: 27)
Even animals, he instills a spirit of clarification, especially with humans. It is not surprising that the technological sophistication of his time continued to spread benefits, because the spirit of tabayyun was upheld.
Salaf generations can also learn the spirit of Tabayyun. One day Umar bin Khattab Radhiyallahu ‘anhu received a report of a woman who committed adultery. He ordered to stone it. On the way, stoning officers met with Ali. Ali asked about it and then removed the woman's hand from them. The incident was reported to Umar. And he believes that it is impossible for Ali to do that without reason. Apparently, after being clarified this woman was crazy and there might be someone who raped her. Finally, the decision was revoked. (HR. Ahmad)
One time Umar bin Abdul Aziz Rahimahullah was visited by someone who reported a person (bad). Umar did not immediately accept it but commented, "We will wait for your speech first, if you lie then you enter in the verse" if you come to the wicked with a message then tabayunlah "(QS. Al-Hujurat: 6) and if you are right, then you enter in the verse "which is much condemning, which is increasingly coming to scatter slander," (Surah Al-Qalam: 11). If you want, we will forgive you. ”That person also apologized and promised not to repeat it. (Adz-Dzammar, Tashfiyah al-Quluub min Adraan al-Auzaar, 107)
The tabayyun spirit of the Qur'an, as-Sunnah and the stories of the Salaf is so urgent, even an emergency is carried out in this digital era so that fellow Muslims in particular, are not divided and eaten by sheep fighting. Likewise, the Indonesian people in general are not ravaged by various slanders born in social media without tabayyun. (*)
