One of the highly praised characters of Islam is forgiveness. That is not angry at the mistakes and ugliness of people towards him. He does not repay the tyranny of people against him with evil. But he is resentful of anger, he removes the resentment in his heart towards him with forgiveness, then he responds to the ugliness of others to him with kindness.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala praised forgiveness, directed servants to be forgiving and flatter people to have this noble character.
"Be thou forgive, and tell people to do what is right, and turn away from those who are ignorant." (QS. Al-A'raf: 199)
"And people who hold back their anger and forgive (mistakes) people. God likes those who do good. "(Surah Ali Imran: 133-134)
Noble Ramadhan educates us on this noble nature. When people challenge fights and invite fights, fasting educates us to say to him, "I am a person who is fasting." Implicit in this sentence, people who fast should not be subject to emotions and lusts. He endures himself from doing bad things to people who have done bad things to him.
Moreover, the purpose of worship Shiyam is to form a cautious person. One of the characteristics of pious people, does not indulge in emotions and satisfaction of lust. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala said, "And hasten ye to the forgiveness of thy Lord and unto the heavens which are the breadth of the heavens and the earth which are reserved for those who fear, (ie) those who spend (wealth), both in the field and narrow, and people who hold back their anger and forgive (mistakes) people. God likes those who do good." (Surah Ali Imran: 133-134)
Basically, Islam allows one to repay another's tyranny against him with appropriate (comparable) retaliation. But if he is patient, forgives, and repays his evil with good, then the reward in it is very large. And pious people give priority to what is in the sight of Allah and revenge in the Hereafter, rather than self-satisfaction to indulge in lust.
Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala said, "And the repayment of a crime is a similar crime, then whosoever forgives and does good, then the reward of (responsibility) Allah. Indeed, He does not like those who do wrong. (Surah Al-Shuura: 40)
The meaning of "then the reward of God": Allah will not waste his attitude on His side. But God will give a great reward and a worthy good reward.
It is stated in the saheeh hadith, "It is not Allah to add to the servant through the forgiveness he gave except glory." (Narrated by Muslim)
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala said, "And it is not equal goodness and evil. Reject (the crime) in a better way, then suddenly the person between you and between him is hostile as if he has become a very loyal friend. These good qualities are not conferred but to those who are patient and not conferred but to those who have great fortune." (QS. Fushshilat: 34-35)
True, doing good to others (especially fellow Muslims) is not the same as doing bad things to them; both in substance, in nature and in return. "There is no good reply except goodness (also)." (QS. Al-Rahman: 60)
And goodness has a higher degree if done against people who have done bad things to us. "Reject (the evil) in a better way." That means: if there are people who do bad things to you either by words or deeds, then respond with kindness. If he disconnects you, then connect. If he forgives you, forgive him. If you talk about your ugliness (either in front of or behind you), then don't reply, but forgive him and speak to him gently.
If he excludes you and does not want to talk to you, then speak well and start greeting him. If you can, then you will get a big rule, "then suddenly the person between you and between him is hostile as if he has become a very loyal friend."
This Allah's taufiq is not given except to people who are patient with the bad things that they get and react with something God loves. Because of the nature of human beings (they want) to repay evil with ugliness to be satisfied. He doesn't want to apologize. But the nature of this verse is very special, not only the forgiveness he gives, but repay the evil by giving virtue. He is aware that repaying evil with evil does not bring good to himself, especially in the hereafter. Even hostility will be even more intense. While if he does good to him, his kindness will still be noted goodness.
Acting as above will not demean us, but on the contrary, God will exalt us with that noble character. God will elevate our rank in the world and the hereafter. Because of the noble character that we display. Wallahu Ta'ala Allah.
