SDN 3 Sawah Lama Bandar Lampung - Encouraging Orphans to Achieve
For three years now Marpuah, Principal of SDN 3 Sawah Lama, Bandar Lampung, has been an Yatim Mandiri donor. She first learned of Yatim Mandiri from one of her colleagues who brought the Yatim Mandiri Magazine. "I was curious, then I read. It turned out that the magazine was very good and discussed a lot about education," she recalled.
According to her, Yatim Mandiri Magazine is very informative and the discussion is complete. "For all ages there is. There are things for women and also children, so they don't get bored reading it," she explained.
Marpuah did not hesitate to invite fellow teachers to become donors. Now there are 17 donors. "Alhamdulillah, even though there are some who are not routine, they want to help orphans," said the 58-year-old woman.
Not only to fellow teachers, Marpuah also routinely invites other colleagues to become donors. "Everywhere I always bring magazines to invite people to become donors," she added.
She also spurred her orphaned students to continue to excel in order to get a scholarship from Yatim Mandiri. "For the past two years some of our outstanding students have received scholarships. This year there are 13 children," she explained. Marpuah also felt helped because the students' parents had become less burdened. (grc)
