Entering the middle of the Sya'ban Month, a second grader in elementary school looked very happy. To his parents he asked repeatedly, "Fasting soon, huh, Ma?"
Ramadhan does have its own charm, not only for believers, but also for children who are going to Baligh. This is because the glory and majesty are truly extraordinary.
So, it is surprising that people understand the nature of Ramadhan then feel ordinary. In history, we will find that the previous ulama reminded each other that Ramadhan would arrive. Next they prepare themselves to multiply pious charity.
The history says that Imam Mu'la bin Fadhal once said, "They (the previous ulama, salafus sholeh) prayed for six months to be submitted to Ramadhan."
This fact shows that Ramadhan cannot be addressed, but with sincerity, totality, and high commitment to achieve devotion.
Imam Ghazali in Ihya 'Ulumuddin explained, "The value of Ramadan fasting is a quarter of faith." He leaned on the hadith of the Prophet, "Fasting is half of patience." (HR Tirmidzi).
Then, Al-Ghazali quotes the hadith qudsi, "Every good deed done by humans will get a reward of ten to seven hundred times, except fasting. Because, actually fasting is only for Me, and I will determine the reward."
So, it is very appropriate if every believer sets himself to welcome Ramadan. Especially fasting in the words of the Prophet including the pillars of upholding religion.
Islam is built on five cases, 1) Creed, 2) prayer, 3) Zakat, 4) Hajj, 5) Ramadan fasting, as in the hadith narrated by Imam Bukhari.
Ramadhan in Buya Hamka's language in his book "From the Valley of Dreams" states that fasting is the media of freedom of the soul over the restraints of lust.
Buya Hamka explained, "We are used to eating during the day. It's hard to let go, get used to it, set yourself free from that habit. It's hard to stop smoking, it's hard to eat outside the allotted time, until the famous adage arises, ‘Humans are slaves from their habits. '
Therefore, fasting is the main tool for freeing the soul from its daily habits, which later becomes a ladder to fight large habits so that the proverb is proverbial, "Not just to eat we live."
The explanation of Hamka may be an explanation of the Prophet's hadith, "Surely the devil entered the body of the son of Adam following his bloodstream. Therefore, constrict the path of Satan by fasting." (Narrated by Bukhari Muslim).
Thus, it is important for every human being to understand Ramadhan as well as possible, then followed by preparatory steps which during the practice of Ramadhan can be encouraged. Because Ramadan is also known as Syahrul Ibadah (month of worship).
We can imagine, so great is the glory that God provides for those who fast again worship, the merit of the Umrah in the month of Ramadan is comparable to the reward of the Hajj. Here we are important to really prepare ourselves with a variety of practices in the Ramadan.
For women, if there are still fasting debts of the previous year, then hasten to pay.
From Abu Salamah said, I heard Ayesha radhiyallahu anha said, "I owe Ramadan fasting and I cannot mengqadha 'except in Sya'ban Month."
Yahya said, "Because he is busy with (taking care of) the Prophet or busy because he is always together (accompanying the busyness) of the Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wasallam." (Narrated by Bukhari).
Now, this is a good opportunity for husbands to encourage their wives to pay fast immediately. Moreover, in the month of Sya'ban the Messenger of Allah did not work on the sunnah fast.
"The Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wasallam used to fast, until we said that he did not break the fast. He also broke the fast until we said that he did not fast. I have never at all seen the Messenger of Allah fasting in a perfect month in addition to the month of Ramadan. I also never saw him fasting more than fasting on the Sya'ban Month." (Narrated by Bukhari Muslim).
However it is important to note, it is not permissible to fast a day or two before entering Ramadan. We are prohibited from fasting at the end of the Sya'ban Month.
"Do not fast you one or two days before Ramadan, unless someone has a habit of fasting, then may he fast." (Narrated by Muslim).
Furthermore, multiply reading the Quran. This is very important especially for those who have an extraordinary busy daytime, coming home late at night from work. Because, it is a pity if you fast, but the interaction with the Al-Quran is low.
If there is indeed a capacity to carry out family responsibilities well during Ramadan without working, focusing on worship is not a bad thing.
Amru bin Qois Al-Malai when entering the Month of Sya'ban he closed his shop, then focused on reading the Al-Quran. Even though this step is impossible for most Muslims. This is only for those who are able and indeed prepare themselves.
Finally, strengthen faith in God. Because Ramadan must make ourselves more faithful and devoted to Him.
The Prophet said, "Whoever fasts in the month of Ramadan because of faith and hopes for a reward from Allah, his sins in the past must be forgiven." (Narrated by Bukhari Muslim).
So, let's prepare ourselves from now to welcome Ramadan. Begin the practice of worship, such as fasting, reading the Al-Quran, and all kinds of practices that can increase the faith and devotion to Allah SWT. Be a Muslim who is ready and happy to welcome Ramadan.
May God give us the ability to prepare ourselves and fill this Ramadhan as well as possible. Aamiin. *
