Adji Pramudya - Save dozens of baby lives through a free incubator
Poverty is still a real scourge for the people of Indonesia. The impact most felt from poverty is the lack of access to health services. One of them is when poor people have to give birth prematurely. As many as 30 of the 1000 premature births of pre-poor people died. This knocked on the hearts of Adji Pramudya, one of the Yatim Mandiri donors, to help them.
In 2014, Adji was invited by a friend from Yogyakarta to promote free loan incubator. "I was interested at that time. Because for me, charity doesn't continue to be about money. We can do more. For example, by lending free incubators. "I also want to benefit the people for a long time," Adji recalled.
At that time, in East Java only Adji was a volunteer. So he must also work extra and maximally to save premature babies.
Together with his wife, Adji tried to reach premature babies to remote villages. Like in Malang, Pasuruan, to all Madura. "At that time we were alone. I was assisted by my wife and thank God my child also helped to become a volunteer. If there are currently four volunteers in Surabaya, "he explained.
To be able to provide assistance to underprivileged premature babies, Adji received assistance from the Jakarta Incubator Center. "From there we get family info that has premature babies but cannot rent an incubator. Then we contacted each other and we came to his house to lend this incubator, "said the father of three daughters.
Aside from being a means of giving alms, Adji also realizes that the cost of expensive incubator rentals is an obstacle for underprivileged families. "Now it costs up to Rp. 1,500,000 per day. Not to mention if the baby is placed in a hospital incubator, the mother becomes less interaction with her child. Can't anytime accompany or carry. Even though babies really need physical and psychological closeness with mothers, "he continued.
When Adji comes to the house and carries an incubator, Adji will explain its use to the parents. With low electricity, this incubator can be used at any time. "The way to use it is easy and automatically turns on and off if the baby is warm," explained this man from Malang.
This easy use is certainly a safe alternative for parents of babies who usually warm their babies in traditional ways. "Because it is usually covered too tightly, which blocks the development of the baby There is also a baby warmed up with lights, and the lights are too close to the baby's face so the baby is overheated, "he added.
Until now, Adji has helped more than 73 premature babies in East Java. "Thank God, 99% are healthy and grow up to be cheerful children. Some time ago we met one of them who was 4 years old. It's great that we can see the children we help grow healthy, "he said.
Although often lending to underprivileged families, Adji once lent this incubator to one of the wealthy families in Madura. "We were surprised because actually this family is capable. But, the main reason is so that the mother can be close to her baby. Unexpectedly, after that this family gave us a new incubator, "he recalled.
For the past seven years Adji has been a donor in Yatim Mandiri. He first got to know Yatim Mandiri when he visited an event and met with one of the Yatim Mandiri staff there. "The time was immediately appropriate because there were not many other amil zakat institutions. In essence, I immediately mate with Independent Orphans, "he concluded.
