"Whoever trusts God, then He will suffice (your needs) ..." (QS At-Thalaq: 3).
If an event befalls us, trust can be a tool to change the event to meet our expectations. In other languages, trust can also lead us to a realm of good fortune. The problem is, what kind of trust can change our destiny? Because, not a few of them are wrong perceptions of understanding tawakal.
Some understand it wrongly, that tawakal is totally surrender to God without doing anything. Others, consider it not important about tawakal. What's important for them is hard work. So that they sometimes interpret the prayers offered to Allah only to the satisfaction of the heart.
This misunderstanding had happened at the time of the Prophet Muhammad. It is said, one day a Bedouin came to the Prophet Muhammad by riding a camel. Arriving in front of the mosque, the Bedouin immediately entered the mosque and let this ride without binding it. When asked by another friend, he replied, "I trust God. I fully surrender this camel to God. "Hearing that, the Prophet SAW said," Tie the camel, then trust Allah. "
One day, Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal and his students were about to leave for the Hajj. He then told his students to pack up. All of his students prepare themselves physically, mentally, and financially. But except for one student who is just silent. Imam Ahmad was surprised and asked the student, "Why are you silent, not preparing everything to leave for Hajj?"
"I put my trust in God," answered the student.
"Not. You do not put your trust in God, but you put your trust (depending) on ??your friends, "the priest responded.
What the Imam Ahmad students did above often infects our lives. Tawakal, according to Imam Ahmad, is not just silence without effort. Tawakal is also not blind submission without effort.
Tawakkal means representing or inviting everything to God, after efforts after efforts including efforts and prayers have been done to the fullest. If there is no effort, and not accompanied by effort and prayer, then it is not yet called tawakal. Now pick up the good fortune by trusting Him. God sure needs all our needs.
Rasulullah SAW said, "If you put your trust in Allah with true trust, surely He will give you sustenance as He gives sustenance to birds, who go early in the morning (morning) on ??an empty stomach (hungry) and go home at the end afternoon (evening) in a state of full stomach (full). "(Ahmad, At-Tirmidzi from 'Umar bin Khattab RA). (*)
